WWE has signed the star of a hit Netflix show to a wrestling deal.
‘Cheer’ star Gabi Butler revealed Tuesday that she’s signed with WWE. The 24-year-old Butler, a native of Boca Raton, Florida, told PEOPLE that she inked the deal to join the top pro wrestling promotion in the world.
PEOPLE writer Natasha Dye wrote, “Cheer star Gabi Butler is ready to take her athleticism to a new sport. The longtime gymnast has officially signed a contract with WWE, she exclusively shares with PEOPLE.”
Butler attended SummerSlam in July in Nashville according to the article. She talked to the magazine about how impressed she was with the athletes of WWE. Butler marveled at it and said the experience was eye-opening.
She said, via PEOPLE, “I was so involved in the cheerleading industry for so long, and I never really looked into anything other than cheerleading. But when I went to SummerSlam, it really just opened my eyes to the athleticism and the dedication the athletes bring into the ring.”
Butler will inevitably plan to report to WWE’s Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Like everyone else, that is where she is to start her pro wrestling career. She isn’t the first person that pursued a pro wrestling career after they gained fame elsewhere. And Butler certainly won’t be the last.
