Windham Rotunda, known and beloved to World Wrestling Entertainment fans as Bray Wyatt, died Thursday.
Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque delivered the somber news in a post on X.
Wyatt’s death came as a shock to WWE fans and the wrestling world at large. Over the last 10 years, Wyatt cultivated an incredible aura over himself and saw a huge fanbase sprout as a result. Bray’s connection with his audience made him one of the most beloved wrestlers of his era.
Throughout his WWE career, Bray wrestled and was put up with some of the very best. He had notable clashes with Kane, Daniel Bryan, and John Cena. He, along with the late Harper as well as Erick Rowan, known as The Wyatt Family, had classic battles with The Shield, which comprised of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and mega-star Roman Reigns. Wyatt clashed with all three in one-on-one feuds as well, but fans almost unanimously fawned over their six-man tag matches in early 2014. They are still regarded as some of the best six-man tag matches of all time.
Where Wyatt really won was his creativity. His characters and many faces delighted his audience and often had them craving more. He developed his first character as a cultist from the South. Then he’d become something of a monster with his ever-popular Fiend character. It became an overnight sensation with fans who liked the horror and frightening motifs Bray would bring to the table.
Bray Wyatt was 36 years old. Rest in Peace, and our thoughts are with his family and the WWE community.
