Terry Funk, one of the greatest pro wrestlers of all time, passed away on Wednesday.
Funk wrestled for numerous wrestling promotions, including what were considered the three top promotions in the United States for a time. He wrestled for World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Federation, now known as World Wrestling Entertainment. Funk also wrestled in Japan, Canada, and several other promotions in America.
His toughness and likability were two of his biggest strong suits. Funk rivaled with Shane Douglas and Mick Foley prominently in the 1990s, among his last contributions to pro wrestling before he winded down. He wrestled in WWE at ECW One Night Stand II in June 2006 in a tag team match with Tommy Dreamer against WWE Hall of Famers Edge and Mick Foley.
Funk is a WWE Hall of Famer, as the company inducted him as part of the Class of 2009. Longtime friend Dusty Rhodes, who passed in 2015, inducted Funk at the time into the Hall of Fame.
Throughout his later years, Funk battled with health issues that ultimately led to his passing. He had been sick for a time and many lately had asked for prayers for him. Terry Funk was 79 years old at the time of his death.
After news emerged of his passing, the wrestling world mourned his death.
I will say more eventually. This one hits hard. RIP Terry Funk. A pleasure and honour to know you. Respect always. pic.twitter.com/psSsKFWOlR
