During Friday night’s showdown between the Indiana Fever and the Washington Mystics, the WNBA’s official scorebook appeared to short Caitlin Clark two assists, robbing her of what should have been a double-double.

Clark put up 32 points in the 104-102 overtime loss to the Mystics as well as eight assists and four rebounds. However, video from the game seemed to show that she actually had two clear assists that were not counted as assists in the scorebook.

In the second quarter, Clark drove into the lane and kicked the ball out to teammate Monique Billings in the corner for a three-pointer. In the fourth quarter, Clark had a hand-off pass to teammate Kelsey Mitchell, setting up another three-pointer.

They seemed to be blatant and egregious misses from the league, sparking outrage from fans. Now, the league has officially admitted its mistake and corrected it.

WNBA Admits Its Mistake

It took a few days, but the WNBA did eventually admit its mistake and correct Clark’s numbers from Friday’s game.

On Sunday afternoon, the Indiana Fever officially announced that Clark’s stats had been corrected from the game. Not only did this give her a double-double in the game, but it also made some WNBA history as Clark became the first player in league history to have multiple games with 30 or more points and 10 or more assists.

“Caitlin Clark is officially the first player in WNBA history to record multiple games of 30+ points and 10+ assists,” the Fever wrote in a post on X. “Stats from Friday’s game against the Mystics have been corrected, so she finished the game with 32 points & 10 assists.”

It may have come in a losing effort, but Clark was absolutely dominant on Friday night – at least in the fourth quarter. While the Fever star struggled mightily through the first four quarters, she had one of the best individual quarters of her career in the fourth, scoring 17 points, making 5 of 7 shots from three-point range and 6 of 8 shots overall, along with two assists, a rebound, and a steal in just nine minutes of action.

Now, she is officially getting the recognition she deserves from such a dominant showing.
