Before it can get started in 2023, the new XFL, which is owned in part by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, needs to settle its legal issues as the league is being sued by Seattle Storm WNBA star Sue Bird and her company.
Bird says the XFL logo is similar to the logo for her media company TOGETHXR. Bird and her fiancée Megan Rapinoe brought attention to the similarities back in April through a series of tweets.
Rapinoe even mentioned that a lawsuit may be pending if changes weren’t going to be made.
Welp. This is awkward. Only thing @TheRock and @XFL2023 are gonna be cookin up is a response to the Cease and Desist and an ENTIRE new brand ID. @togethxr got this on

“Welp. This is awkward,” Rapinoe said in a tweet. “Only thing @TheRock and @XFL2023 are gonna be cookin up is a response to the Cease and Desist and an ENTIRE new brand ID. @togethxr got this on [lock] boys.”
The suit claims that the company made attempts to contact the XFL but they have “failed to acknowledge that it has tread on TOGETHXR’s rights.” So now they want a court to step in and force the league to stop using the X logo and pay for damages.
Johnson bought the XFL back in 2020 and the league is starting to firm up its broadcasting and team personnel plans. However, it sounds like they’ll need to get this copyright issue sorted out before they can officially kick-off.
