Since the arrival of Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark, the WNBA is growing at an exponential rate, with 18 teams expected the league by 2018, after opening the 2024 season with only 12. As a result of the league’s newfound financial viability, franchises are being more cutthroat than ever in the pursuit of building winning teams as fast as possible.

One of those cutthroat moves was made on Tuesday, as a blockbuster trade went down, according to one prominenet league insider.

“The Washington Mystics are trading Brittney Sykes to the Seattle Storm in a deal that will also send Alysha Clark and a 2026 first-round pick to D.C., sources told ESPN,” ESPN’s senior WNBA insider Alexa Philippou reported.

Ramona Shelbourne followed up on the initial reporting.

“The Storm heavily recruited Clark this offseason and she took less money to return to Seattle. But expectations for both her role and the team have fallen short. She’ll have a larger role in Washington.”

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Not moved . Brittney gon get locked by DiJonai and they still ain’t got nobody to guard phee,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Storm need a legit knockdown 3 point shooter not an inconsistent scorer but getting rid of Clark was a must,” someone else added.

“If they can’t improve with Sykes that coach definitely needs to be gone ..too much talent the last two years to be mediocre,” another fan wrote.

It’ll be interesting to see how Clark does with the Washington Mystics.
