Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese is without a doubt one of the most polarizing athletes across all sports. But longtime sports personality Jason Whitlock is clearly not a fan.
After being traded to the Dream during the offseason, Reese has been off to a slow start this season, highlighted by one of the worst games of her enter career on Sunday. In the loss to the Las Vegas Aces, Reece went just 1-for-8 from the field and turned the ball over eight times in just 29 minutes of action, resulting in the team benching her down the stretch.
Following that performance, Whitlock had some strong words of criticism for the WNBA star as he claimed that the only reason Reese is famous is because she infamously trolled Caitlin Clark during the 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship when she did the “You Can’t See Me” gesture and pointed to her ring finger.
“That’s why Angel Reese is famous,” Whitlock said on his podcast. “Had she not trolled Caitlin Clark while they were in college, everyone would be aware of and talking about Angel Reese is the most brutal basketball player we’ve ever seen.”
Whitlock went on to called Reese “the most unskilled alleged star” that the league has ever seen.
“The most unskilled alleged star we’ve ever seen,” Whitlock said of Reese. “She shoots the ball from her waist. She’s not trying to get better as an offensive player or a skilled basketball player.”
Reese has indeed been struggling this season, as she currently leads the league in turnovers, but it’s worth noting that she has led the league in rebounding each of the past two seasons. She is the only player in WNBA history to average at least 12.0 rebounds per game in a season, doing it in both 2024 and 2025, and she led the league in double-doubles last season.
Despite Whitlock’s criticism, Reese has proven herself capable of performing in the WNBA. Now, she just needs to do it with more consistency, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
The good news is that Reese was able to bounce back a bit on Friday night as she helped lead her team to victory against the Dallas Wings, scoring 15 points on a 7-for-11 shooting performance while pulling down nine rebounds.
