Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark has helped catapult the WNBA to never-before-seen levels of attendance, television ratings, and cultural relevance. As successful as Clark has been for the league as a whole, the Fever haven’t fared quite as well.
The Fever are sitting at 9-10 on the season as they struggle to stay in the playoff picture. One of Clark’s precious coaches, Lisa Bluder, her head coach when she played with the Iowa Hawkeyes, believes there’s a certain approach it takes to get the most out of the young superstar.
“The things that Michael Jordan had, that Phil (Jackson) had to help Michael with, were some of the same things I feel I had to help Caitlin with,” Bluder said, according to Yahoo Sports.
Fans reacted to Bluders’ words on social media.
“That’s incredible—tapping into MJ and Phil Jackson’s mindset shows just how seriously Caitlin Clark is chasing greatness. True student of the game!” one person wrote on Twitter.
“(Indiana Fever) Take note. Because you’re ruining the best thing to ever happen to the WNBA and she isn’t gonna stay forever and watch her career go down the toilet. Think fans are gonna stay or follow her,” one fan added.
“Ya’ll really over selling that girl. She ain’t that and it’s hard for her fans to come to grips with it. If they could take an unbiased look deeply at her game and skillset she’s JAG (just a girl) not special. Does she have exciting moments? Yes but no more than anyone else,” anaoher fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Stephanie White, Clark’s current head coach, decides to take a similar approach with the young superstar.
