The Indiana Fever are officially out of the WNBA playoffs after losing a winner-take-all Game 5 to the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA semifinals. Unfortunately, many Fever fans are left wondering how things might have turned out if star point guard Caitlin Clark, who missed all of the playoffs with a groin injury, had been available.

Many expected that the Fever would prioritize getting Clark healthy ahead of next season and taking a look at the franchise’s strength training program to see if it needs to be tweaked to prevent Clark from losing more time in future seasons.

However, one Fever executive is making it clear that none of that is what the franchise will be prioritizing this offseason.

“I’m going to sound like a broken record: The number one priority will be Kelsey Mitchell and making sure she remains in a Fever uniform,” general manager Amber Cox said.

Fans reacted to the revelation on social media.

“Caitlin and Aliyah are still on their rookie contracts so keeping Kelsey will keep their core 3 intact. Glad Kelsey will get the maximum contract under the new contract. Good for her,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“They need to take better care of her, the injury she got in semifinal game 5 suggests they aren’t making sure she’s hydrated and resting properly,” another fan added.

“Or, maybe getting Caitlin Clark healthy & surround her with the right pieces to win a title,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Indiana can bring Mitchell back.
