While everyone in the sports world is offering their opinion on the Chennedy Carter/Caitlin Clark situation, we are hearing from former and current players in the league who want to speak out on it.

One of those is ESPN NBA host and former Los Angeles Sparks player Chiney Ogwumike who discussed it Tuesday morning on First Take.

She says the media is so focused on the incident and forgets how good the play is overall.

“The idea that women have to be mindful of how they compete and also that the WNBA is a monolith is kind of a dangerous thought because the WNBA is a melting pot of women who compete differently,” Ogwumike said.”We are so caught up on dissecting the growth of the women’s game, that we are missing out on the goodies. … Why can’t all growth, all ways that women compete, be good for the game.”

Ogwumike says players in the league are not going to tone down their play because of Caitlin Clark, which is apparently what many fans and media members want.

Stephen A. Smith calls Clark the “golden goose” and players should be mindful of how she is being treated, but Ogwumike pointed out that you can’t change how players perform on the court.
