The Indiana Fever are gearing up for the upcoming season, and superstar Caitlin Clark is fully healthy and ready to make her return after she lost all the majority of her second season to soft-tissue injuries, including a groin injury that cost her the entire second half of the season.
Training camp is underway for the Fever, and Clark is feeling confident about her abilities and isn’t afraid to voice that confidence.
“I think I’m the best transition player in the league. That’s where I thrive,” she said, via Fever reporter Chloe Peterson.
Clark also touched on the addition of rookie and former South Carolina Raven Johnson, whom the Fever selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft.
“It is exhausting bringing the ball up the floor 94 feet versus pressure every single time, so we certainly need to find someone who can handle the ball … I think Raven and Ty, even other people through camp, have done a great job.”
Water under the bridge
Many speculated that Johnson’s selection would lead to locker room issues for the Fever, given Johnson and Clark’s past, which dates back to the 2023 Final Four, where Clark waved off Johnson rather than guarding her from the three-point line, literally daring her to shoot.
However, Fever star Aliyah Boston, who is entering her third season as Clark’s teammate and played with Johnson at South Carolina, downplayed any potential issues.
“It’s so funny, the fans always have more beef than the players actually do,” Boston said on her Post Moves podcast, via Heavy.com. “So it’s always entertaining, you read all this stuff, and fans are hating on one person, hating on another. And then you’re playing with that said person.
“And so I think it’s going to be fine. Everyone has their thoughts, but when you come in, and you’re in the gym and you’re ready to hoop, that’s literally all it is.”
Clark and Johnson will play their first game together in a preseason tilt against the New York Liberty on April 25.
