Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has had an extraordinary effect on the WNBA since turning pro. Clark has helped the league see record numbers of attendance and viewership, and television ratings dropped by 55% while she was out with an injury.
Thankfully, Clark is back in action, helping lead the Fever to wins over the New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun in her first two games back. However, in the game against the Sun, Clark showed that maybe all the fame is starting to get to her head.
During a verbal back and forth, Clark appears to tell Sun guard Jacy Sheldon: “I can do whatever the f*ck I want to do.”
Fans reacted to the statement on social media.
“Clearly that white girl being influenced to hate Caitlin by dijinae mustard,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“The more they pick on her the tougher she gonna be alright cause she know how to adjust,” another fan added.
“She’s carrying that league hard she should be able to do anything,” someone else added.
“I think a lot of lesbians and black athletes in the WNBA hate seeing Caitlin taking all the shine in the league! the physicality in the league is rejuvenating a sport going soft,’ one person wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if Clark embraces the villain role this season.
