WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have quite a high-profile rivalry that dates back to their showdowns at the college level. This week, however, they found themselves as teammates for Team USA, leading to lots of eyes on how they interact on the court. That led to a viral moment this week.
During a recent Team USA game, Clark made a pretty brutal move against Angel Reese when she appeared to snub her while giving high-fives to her teammates.
While Clark high-fived several of her Team USA teammates on the court, Reese stretched her hand out to Clark, but Clark totally avoided it.
The snub might not necessarily be intentional, but that did not stop anyone from reacting as if it were.
Despite their battles on the court, Clark has always downplayed the rivalry with Reese, as she has suggested that the storyline is more for the media.
“I’m pretty sure the only people that view this as a rivalry is all of you,” Clark said previously as she gestured to the media. “For us, it’s just the game of basketball – that’s what it is. If it’s going to help move the game forward, absolutely. That’s amazing. People should talk about it.”
Clark has also spoken highly of Reese publicly, previously praising her “competitive fire.”
“There’s that competitive fire. Both of us want to win more than anything and that’s how it should be when you’re a competitor and you get into a situation like this, whether it was the national championship, whether it’s the Elite Eight. That goes for LSU’s entire roster. That goes for Iowa’s entire roster. Every single one of us wants this so bad. We want to advance to the Final Four so bad,” Clark said of Reese ahead of their matchup in the Elite Eight back in college.
“So, I think that’s the main similarity is how bad and how competitive we are. We both grew up loving this game, and we’re going to do anything we can to help our teams win.”
Whether the snub was intentional or not, their rivalry will undoubtedly continue to persist.
