Caitlin Clark was in the news on Tuesday for reasons that, in fairness to the women’s basketball supernova, didn’t relate first-hand to her.
The IndyStar reportedly suspended reporter Gregg Doyel after an awkward and creepy encounter occurred last month.
Awful Announcing wrote on the story. After their awkward interaction, AA said that Doyel won’t be allowed at any Indiana Fever games this season.
“The awkward interaction proceeded to go viral, with many accusing Doyel of being creepy towards the 22-year-old Clark. Doyel addressed the interaction in a subsequent column, referring to his actions as ‘clumsy and awkward,’ AA wrote.
The awkward interaction between Clark and Doyel did indeed go viral and sparked a massive conversation. IndyStar’s decision to suspend Doyel is the right call in this situation. According to longtime reporter Bob Kravitz, the suspension is for two weeks, and he won’t be able to cover the Fever on-site. He can write columns remotely but isn’t allowed to participate in in-person reporting.
Chances are, the Fever probably had some say in this, and it’s entirely justified. Given the nature of the situation and Clark’s rising fame, security for her will be something that will have to be heightened all year. Due to Doyel’s weird interaction, he now finds himself on the outside looking in. For all prospective reporters, one free idea is: Don’t do that or do anything close to it. You will probably have your fate sealed.

might be beneficial for the Indy Star to put someone in his place who has WNBA/women's basketball knowledge, background and respects women athletes https://t.co/N3Kbp8bpqE
