Monday’s matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun, the fourth WNBA game of former Iowa star Caitlin Clark, featured a worrisome moment for Clark that certainly caught the attention of the basketball world.
Thus far, Clark has had some issues transitioning to the WNBA, struggling in her first three games in the league, largely with turning the ball over and shooting consistently against the highest level of competition in the women’s game.
One of these games came against the Connecticut Sun. In her WNBA debut, the Sun forced Clark into ten turnovers, a WNBA record for the most turnovers in a debut for any player.
Naturally, Clark was looking to put together a much better effort in her second career game against the Sun. But unfortunately, she had to overcome some adversity in the second quarter of the game.
While attempting to fight through a screen, Clark appeared to tweak her ankle, instantly reaching down at her ankle in pain just moments after falling to the floor.
Moments later, Clark hobbled off to the locker room, not returning for the remainder of the second quarter.
Luckily, she was able to come back to the game for the start of the third quarter, which is obviously a great sign that the injury may not be as serious as it may have initially looked.
Still, this is obviously not the way that Clark wanted to start this game, in a season that has been a big underwhelming thus far. Before the injury, Clark had made just two of her six shots from the field in the first half.
