Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has had a Michael Jordan-esque effect on the WNBA since entering the league. Since she went with the number one overall pick in 2024, Clark’s presence has thrust the league to record numbers in attendance and viewership, leading to a slew of expansion franchises being announced.
However, the WNBA may pause play heading into the 2026 season, while the league and players’ association sit at the negotiating table for the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement, which players feel should be reflective of the growth the league is experiencing in their contracts.
Now, news has broken that Clark is getting involved herself, and going right at the league on behalf of its players. The union and league will meet in Indianapolis on Thursday over All-Star Weekend, and Clark is going to be a part of the meetings.
‘This is my second year in the league, but also this is also a very important time for our league and where it’s going to continue to grow,” Clark said.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Ironic how the players only want to recognize CC when it involves making them more money. I really wish she would not be a part of it…this League and its players DESERVE NOTHING from this girl. She has been attacked by this league and its players the ENTIRE TIME,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“She the only one with clout to get more money for the players…but these fools trying to end her career,” one fan added.
“Maybe she can get some changes in officiating in order to better protect players,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if the sides can come to an agreement before things result in a pause in play.
