The Indiana Fever and thier fans were devastated when Caitlin Clark was seen on the verge of tears on the bench after injuring her groin in the final minutes of a victory over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night.
The injury kept her out of Wednesday night’s game against the New York Liberty on Wednesday, despite being designated as questionable earlier in the day. Now, there’s been some light shed on how the decision to keep Clark out of the game came to be.
“Fever coach Stephanie White said that Caitlin Clark was downgraded from questionable to out in response to the imaging she got on her groin this afternoon. They have not had any discussions beyond her status for tonight (re: All-Star),” Fever writer Chloe Peterson reported.
Interestingly, White also revealed that Clark’s involvement in All-Star weekend festivities is not up to the Fever, but rather Clark herself.
“Whether CC will participate in All-Star activities this weekend will be up to ‘Caitlin and her team,’” Peteson followed up.
Peterson then reported on exactly what White meant by “Caitlin and her team.”
“To clarify: by Caitlin and her team, it means her agency. The Fever don’t necessarily have a stake in what CC does at All-Star — they can make their recommendations on what they would prefer for her health, but it’s ultimately up to her on what she does this weekend.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Clark participates in the three-point contest as originally planned.
