Early Thursday morning, two semi-trucks collided on I-94 near Albertville, Minnesota (35 minutes northwest of Minneapolis). That led to a giant traffic mess that took hours to resolve, partly because one of the trucks was carrying a load of potatoes. Those scattered across the highway, and created further crashes and other problems, as per Diane Sandberg of Minneapolis NBC affiliate KARE:
Minnesota State troopers say a crash between two semi-trucks is the cause of a major traffic snarl on I-94 eastbound in the northwest metro Thursday morning.
One of the trucks lost its load of potatoes, closing eastbound lanes of the busy interstate at County Road 19 in the Albertville area. Other drivers hit the potatoes and other debris from the collision, disabling them as well.
Troopers say there were injuries in the accident, but none were believed to be life threatening.
Here’s a KARE video discussing that:
As per Jennifer Lewerenz of St. Cloud, MN’s KNSI Radio, the interstate reopened shortly after 10 a.m. local. But that’s still a remarkable accident, especially with the frozen potato factor. Might be time to add a new verse to “Bud The Spud”:
