In case you weren’t watching Sunday’s USFL game between the Philadelphia Stars and New Jersey Generals, you missed a pretty incredible performance by Stars’ kicker Luis Aguilar.
Aguilar was responsible for all 24 points Philadelphia scored on Sunday, including eight field goals, three of which were from beyond 50 yards, and including the 55-yard game-winner for the 24-21 victory.
Time expired as Aguilar’s eighth kick of the day went through the uprights, sealing the victory for his team.
According to the USFL, Aguilar broke the all-time pro record with eight field goals in one game, one more than the NFL’s Tennessee Titans kicker Rob Bironas. Aguilar made field goals from 22, 42, 56, 36, 27, 51, 49, and 55 yards out, all of which combined for 338 yards, also a pro football record.
The Northern Arizona product is no stranger to breaking records. He broke the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) record for the longest field goal in 2019 (57 yards). He was also named the Fred Mitchell Award winner for being the most outstanding placekicker in FCS Division I, Division II, Division III, and NAIA.
In his second season in the USFL with the Stars, you have to wonder if an NFL team might give Aguilar an invite now that he’s put together such a historic performance. Finding a dependable kicker who can come through when you need it most isn’t always easy. The proof is in the pudding and Aguilar seems to have proved himself worth a look.
