I’m going to warn you now, today’s Cheat Sheet is heavy on the Cleveland
What else could you expect, though? On a night that saw the city of Cleveland host Game One of the World Series and celebrate an NBA championship on the other side of the street, it was unavoidable today. But don’t worry, we have plenty of ground to cover for you today. But on a quick side note, it sunk in for me while watching the Indians and Cubs in the Fall Classic last night that FOX broadcaster Joe Buck will have the unique honor to call a World Series clinching moment for the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians or Chicago Cubs. That is quite a feat considering the history of those franchises. Right place, right time for Buck?
Indians club Cubs in Game One
The Cleveland Indians took Game 1 of the World Series with a dominating 6-0 victory over the NL champion Chicago Cubs. Andrew Miller came through in the clutch out of the bullpen and avoided a near-disaster of an inning when he worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam. Before that it was the Corey Kluber show on the mound, as he baffled the Cubs right from the start. The frustration never came to an end for the Cubs, who whiffed 15 times.
Roberto Perez was the offensive star of the night for Cleveland. Perez launched a three-run home run in the eighth inning to double the Indians’ lead to 6-0. He hit a solo shot earlier in the game to give the Indians a 3-0 lead. The dude hit just three home runs in the regular season, and comes through with two shots in the first game of the World Series? Baseball is great. Making this feat even more notable? This was his first multi-home run game… at any level. He joins an elite group of catchers with the multi-homer performance at the plate too.
Cubs fans waited a long time for this moment, and it did not get off on the right foot. But today is a brand new day and there is absolutely no reason to hit a panic button just yet, not that this will stop anyone from Chicago from fearing the worst possible outcome now.
Most importantly of all, we’re getting a free taco from Taco Bell.
The King Receives His Ring, Then Puts In a Triple Double
Before the World Series tossed out the first pitch, the Cleveland Cavaliers celebrated their long-awaited NBA championship across the street. That meant shiny rings for all…
… a pregame speech by LeBron James…
… the raising of the championship banner…
… and then a victory over the New York Knicks. LeBron put in a triple-double with 19 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds in the 117-88 win over the Knicks. Kyrie Irving turned in a 29-point evening as well. The Knicks may have become a trendy pick in Las Vegas as a long shot to win it all, and Tuesday night showed why. The Knicks got 19 points from Carmelo Anthony and 17 from newly-acquired Derrick Rose. Kristaps Porzingis added 16 points and the three combined for four assists.
For some reason, The Undertaker showed up.
