On Wednesday night, the United States Women’s National Team took on the Netherlands in a pivotal group stage match against the Netherlands. It was a thrilling match right down to the final whistle, and it delivered some absolutely massive television viewership ratings as a result.
According to a report from the Twitter account Sports TV Ratings, the United States Women’s National Team’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands on Wednesday evening averaged 6.429 million viewers on Fox.
These massive numbers set a new English-language record for a Women’s World Cup group stage match.

As Joe Lucia of Awful Announcing points out, this marks back-to-back strong viewership numbers for the USWNT.
“This marks two strong audiences from two USWNT matches so far in this tournament. Last Friday’s 3-0 win over Vietnam averaged 5.261 million viewers on Fox, with another one million tuning in on Telemundo, Universo, and Peacock,” Lucia wrote
“The Vietnam match was the second-most-watched group stage Women’s World Cup match on an English-language network, behind just 2019’s USWNT-Chile match (5.34 million on Fox).”
It’s clear that this team has a lot of support from the viewers, and the social media world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.
Unfortunately, this trend is unlikely to continue as the team’s next game against Portugal will kick off at 3 a.m. ET.
