Soccer world reacts to huge USA-Mexico women’s soccer news

While the United States and Mexico are fierce rivals in soccer, they are looking to partner up to host the biggest event in men’s and women’s soccer in consecutive years.

Along with Canada, the United States and Mexico will host the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2026. On Wednesday, it was announced that the United States and Mexico are putting a joint bid together to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup the following year.

The announcement was made on the U.S. Soccer Twitter page on Wednesday night.

Cindy Cone, the president of U.S. Soccer, was excited about the bid.

She was not alone. The bid was met with a great deal of enthusiasm within the soccer world.

This would be the third FIFA Women’s World Cup held in the United States (1999, 2003) and the third held in North America (Canada, 2015).

If accepted, it would also give the United States a major international sporting event in three consecutive years. In addition to bidding to co-host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and co-hosting the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2026, Los Angeles will host the Summer Olympics in 2028.

Other announced bids for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup include another joint bid from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, then individual bids from South Africa and Brazil.
