In a shocking move, Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United have agreed to part ways “with immediate effect.”
In a revealing interview with British talk show host Piers Morgan, Ronaldo criticized the team and team management, which lead to them mutually agreeing to part ways.
“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future,” read a statement from Man U. “Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”
Ronaldo’s contract with the team runs through June of next year but after his comments, they decided to cut ties now.
Ronaldo accused the team of “zero progress” since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and said he has no respect for Ten Hag.
Strong words from one of the best that ever played the game. Yet despite his words, Rolando did wish the team the best in the future.
“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge,” said Ronaldo. “I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
This was Rolando’s second go-around with Man U. He played with the team for six years from 2003 to 2009.
