Last year, there was some drama between USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter and the parents of star player Gio Reyna after they surfaced a decades-old domestic violence incident between Berhalter and his wife presumably in response to their son’s lack of playing time and treatment by the manager. But it sounds like Christian Pulisic has no interest in the situation.
During an interview with ESPN, Christian Pulisic was asked his thoughts on the United States’ search for a new manager, and he revealed that he thinks Berhalter was “extremely unfortunate” to be put in a situation that he describes as “extremely childish.”
“Everything that happened with Gregg, first of all, has been handled in an extremely childish manner. I think we’ve seen what’s been going on. I think it’s childish, it’s youth soccer, people complaining about playing time. I don’t want to go too far into that, but I think Gregg has been extremely unfortunate to get into the position he is in now.”
Though the USMNT allowed Berhalter’s contract to expire, he is a candidate to be the team’s manager once again following an investigation into the domestic violence incident. But Pulisic doesn’t think it’s his role to choose the next manager.
“I’m not here to appoint the next manager — it’s not my job — and whoever it is I’m going to play and give it 100%,” Pulisic said.
