Over the past several months and years, transgender rights have become a massive source of conversation in the world of sports and politics with several states moving toward banning trans women from competing in women’s sports – a move which has support from former United States president Donald Trump and a few notable women’s sports stars.
But not everyone supports the controversial legislation as United States soccer star Alex Morgan has recently spoken out against states limiting trans participation in sports. Morgan even went as far as to suggest that the United States Women’s National Team should have some discussions about whether or not to continue playing games in states that restrict trans rights.
“Looking at these games in Florida and Texas respectively, we’re going to need to continue to step it up, and have internal discussions as well with the team, because we’re not ones to shy away from hard conversation or taking a stand for what’s right,” Alex Morgan said last week according to the Associated Press.
Morgan is not the only USWNT player to speak out in support of trans rights as two-time World Cup champion Becky Sauerbrunn recently released a statement supporting trans women playing in women’s sports.
