Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre is involved in the mass embezzlement of Mississippi state welfare money to fund a volleyball arena and attempt to fund a football facility at his alma mater, Southern Miss. University. As part of that scandal, state welfare funds were also used to invest in a prescription drug company that involves United States soccer legend Abby Wambach. But after hearing the news, Wambach is cutting ties with the company.
According to ESPN, Wambach was a member of the sports advisory board for Odyssey Health – whose top investor is Favre. ESPN reports that $2.1 million of Mississippi welfare money instead went to Odyssey Health. As a result, Wambach is cutting ties with the company.
“Minutes after learning this new information, I initiated the process to immediately and fully divest myself from any involvement — financial and otherwise — with Prevacus/Odyssey Health Inc., a process that I insisted be complete by end of day today,” Wambach said. “Since I genuinely believed this company was being transparent about a product that could spare the next generation of athletes from the severe impact of concussion injuries that I endured as a professional athlete, I am profoundly angry, disappointed, and saddened by what I learned today.”
Wambach is one of the most accomplished players in United States soccer history. She won a World Cup winner and is a two-time gold medalist and a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
