Tyler Reddick dropped out of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway, citing pain in his head.
The Richard Childress Racing driver pulled into the garage on lap 193 of the 500-lap event radioing his crew, “I haven’t felt right since that (last) restart. My head hurts.”
The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi reported after Reddick’s exit that an RCR team member said that, “Reddick hadn’t felt right all week after his hard crash at Homestead, and when he rear-ended someone in the race today he started to feel worse so he pulled to the garage.”
Here’s a look back at Reddick’s hard crash at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
It’s important to note that Reddick was not diagnosed with a concussion or any head trauma after that incident.
The damage to Reddick’s car from the incident at Martinsville was minimal.
Reddick has three NASCAR Cup wins in 2022, and has made the playoffs the past two seasons. He announced earlier this year he would be joining Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing team after the 2023 season. That led to an awkward situation with Reddick at RCR, and 23XI worked out a deal to get him released from his contract so he can join the team next year.
NASCAR fans on Twitter expressed concern for Reddick’s health.
