The 2020 Belmont Stakes served as the first leg of the Triple Crown, rather than the final leg, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the race was shortened from 1 1/2 miles to 1 1/8 miles, a length that hasn’t been run at the Belmont since 1925. Oh, and this was all done without fans in attendance at Belmont Park.
While all of that made for an extremely unusual setting, the race itself went as expected.
Tiz the Law entered the race as a 4/5 favorite, and won the 152nd edition of the Belmont with ease.
And with the victory, Tiz the Law becomes the first New York-bred horse to win the Belmont Stakes (located in Elmont, NY) since Forester did so in 1882.
