On Wednesday, NASCAR sued NBA legend Michael Jordan’s racing team and his long-time business partner, Curtis Polk, who has advised Jordan for decades, according to The Athletic. The suit alleges that both have been involved in an illegal scheme meant to extract more favorable terms from NASCAR during negotiations.
The suit alleges that under Polk’s leadership, the team “agreed to a scheme to pressure NASCAR to accept their collusive terms, including by engaging in media campaigns, interfering with NASCAR’s broadcast agreement negotiations, threatening boycotts of NASCAR events and engaging in a group boycott of a NASCAR Team Owner Council Meeting.”
NASCAR did not mince words in the suit, calling the teams “an illegal cartel.”
Fans reacted to the bombshell lawsuit on social media.
“Degenerate gambler Michael Jordan fails at yet another thing. He wants so badly to be known for being good at something besides hoops that it’s become a mental problem. Failed at baseball, golf, casino gambling, poker, sports betting, proposition gambling, and now NASCAR. Sad,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Lmaoooo they’re losing in court. This is desperate. Good news for 2311 and front row. NASCAR is feeling the pressure,” one fan added.
“I never thought I’d be supporting a cartel, but here we are lol,” someone else wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see how the case plays out in the courts.
