It is well known around NASCAR that Joe Gibbs Racing has not been able to resign Kyle Busch yet because they can’t find a new sponsor.
Mars, who sponsors Busch’s No. 18 car, is leaving soon and the coach admits he hasn’t been able to find a new sponsor as quickly as he thought he would.
It’s been hard,” Team owner Joe Gibbs said Sunday after Christopher Bell won in New Hampshire. “We’re working really hard to try and get things done, and it is hard, though.
“You’ve got to put a lot in place to make things work out, and we’re working as hard as we can. We’re going after it, a number of different directions. So yeah, I’m surprised at this point that we haven’t been able to get that finished.”
Busch has been the most successful driver under JBR, winning 56 races under this team. So if he leaves, it would be a major blow to JBR in terms of identity and potential future success.
JBR, along with Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing, announced that Tyler Reddick will be joining the team in two years, joining Bubba Wallace and Busch. But the buzz around the sport is that the younger Busch is up for grabs, although JBR did say last week they have every intention of resigning him in the future.
The question is when?
