For the first time in nearly three years, Bubba Wallace returned to victory lane in the NASCAP Cup Series in what was a defining moment in the racing world.
Wallace, who had last won at Kansas Speedway in 2022, was able to out-duel Kyle Larson en route to the victory where he had to overcome an 18-minute rain delay and two overtimes.
The victory is significant for the sport of racing specifically because it is the first time that an African American driver has won the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Naturally, there were plenty of reactions to Wallace’s historic win, with many obviously congratulating him for the historic feat and getting back in the winners circle in general.
After securing the victory, Wallace of course received the honor to kiss the famed bricks at the course, and later spoke with reporters about what the victory meant to him.
“Unbelievable,” said Wallace. “To win here at the Brickyard knowing how big this race is, knowing all the noise that is going on in the background… To set that all aside is a testament to the people here on this 23 team. It’s been getting old running on the cut line.”
This win may very well be the biggest win in Wallace’s career. So hopefully this is a sign of even bigger things to come for Wallace in his racing career.
