Taylor Swift and Donald Trump have never exactly been on friendly terms. The pop superstar has been outspoken in her criticism of Trump and has publicly endorsed his political opponents in past elections. Trump, in turn, has fired back with a series of insulting remarks about her. Still, that didn’t stop Trump and his team from featuring her music in a new viral video.
This week, a post from the White House’s official TikTok account used Swift’s latest hit, “The Fate of Ophelia,” as the soundtrack for a pro-Trump video celebrating his presidency.
The clip pairs the lyrics of Swift’s song with a montage of images from Trump’s time in office.
“Keep it one hundred on the land (Land), thе sea (Sea), the sky,” the lyrics play as footage of the Army, Navy, and Air Force flashes across the screen.
“Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes,” the next line reads over shots of Trump, Vance, and members of his staff.
“Don’t care where the hell you’ve been (Been) ’cause now (Now) you’re mine,” follows as Trump’s mugshot appears on screen, transitioning to him embracing the American flag.
“It’s ’bout to be the sleepless night you’ve been dreaming of,” the song continues as fireworks burst over Washington, D.C.
For the final frame, the text in the video changes the lyric “the fate of Ophelia” to “the fate of America.”
It’s a pretty shocking move from Trump, especially considering the harsh things he’s said about Swift in the past and the false claims he’s made about her during his campaign, and it led to a lot of reactions in the comments of the video.
“Ohhh Taylor is going to hate you’re using her song,” one person wrote in the comments.
“MAGA is so desperate to seem mainstream that they’re using the music of the woman they’ve been publicly attacking since the 2010s,” someone else added.
“It’s clear that Taylor lives rent free in Trump’s mind,” someone else wrote.
“Oh absolutely not,” another person wrote.
“I’m sure Taylor’s going to be thrilled,” someone else added.
“Didn’t Trump say how awful Taylor Swift is?” another person pointed out.
Given Swift’s outspoken opposition to Trump over the years, it’s safe to assume she won’t be pleased about her music being used in a video like this.
