Some famous people have recently gotten into NASCAR team ownership. Michael Jordan teamed up with Denny Hamlin to form 23XI Racing, driven by Bubba Wallace, set to race in 2021. In addition, Floyd Mayweather is reportedly going to enter a partnership with Spire Motorsports to run a car in 2022. Now, it’s Pitbull’s turn as it was announced he will be a co-owner of Trackhouse Racing.

Trackhouse is a new team that was started by Justin Marks and has Daniel Suárez driving. Suárez is the only Mexican full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series but in addition, Marks’ Trackhouse team is promoting STEM education through his family charity and is focused on treating the team as an educational platform for young people and minorities. Similarly, Pitbull promotes STEM education through the SLAM! charter schools throughout the country.
The single-car efforts of Trackhouse and 23XI will debut in 2021 and while it’ll be difficult for a new single car team, there seems to be a lot of hype and curiosity for how these teams will perform. One thing that can’t be said about them is they’ll be underfunded so that’s half the battle in NASCAR. Even though these teams might not yet be championship caliber, they can possibly compete for the occasional win if things go their way. And if that happens, it’ll be massive for the sport, the drivers, and the big-name owners taking part.
