Before Kit Harington became arguably the main character on the most popular show in television history, he was just a normal guy getting punched at a McDonald’s.

When Harington showed up to his Game of Thrones audition, he had to own up to his fight in a McDonald’s. That’s because he showed up to the interview with a black eye. However, having a black eye while auditioning for the role of Jon Snow might have actually been a good thing.

Snow is a battle tested warrior, bastard (kind of), and rough and tough guy. So the black eye probably did help in a way.

While speaking with magazine Monday, Harington had to own up to the story and the eventful date.

That’s right, Harington got the black eye during A DATE at a MCDONALD’S. The way Harington tells it, he and his lady friend asked two other customers if they could share a table with them. After sitting down, the man next to them proceeded to call Harington’s date an “ugly pig.”

The former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch didn’t like that.

“I called him up for a fight, which I’d never done before,” Harington said. “And of course he’d been sat down the whole time, and he got up and he just kept going. And I just realized at that point that I had to throw the first punch otherwise I’d look like a complete wimp.”

Unfortunately for Harington, he wasn’t as lucky as he was when the Night’s Watch defended the Wall from the wildlings.

“I got battered,” Harington said. “So then I went to the Jon Snow audition with a black eye… I think that man who punched me in the face may have helped me get the job… So if you’re watching, thank you.”

Imagine being the guy who made Harington arguably the main character on Game of Thrones. There’s no way any of his friends believe him.
