It turns out Danny Trejo is every bit the badass in real life that he is in the movies. The 75-year-old actor saved a baby that was trapped in an overturned car on Wednesday in the Los Angeles area.
According to ABC7, two cars collided in Sylmar, and one of the cars overturned on its roof with a baby “trapped inside, strapped into a car seat.”
That’s when Trejo — best-known for playing the character “Machete” — and a young woman came to the rescue.
One of the vehicles overturned onto its roof and a baby was trapped inside, strapped into a car seat.
Trejo and another bystander helped rescue the child.
Trejo crawled into the overturned wreckage from one side, he recalled, but he couldn’t unbuckle the child’s car seat from that angle.
The other bystander, a young woman, crawled in from the other side of the overturned vehicle and was able to undo the buckle. Trejo was then able to get the baby out of the car seat and pulled safely from the wreckage.
It’s unclear what caused the collision, but Trejo believes one of the drivers may have run a red light. Three people were taken to the hospital, but ABC7 reports that there were no life-threatening injuries.
Trejo also had this to say:
“Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else. Everything.”
