Texas Tech coach & MLS player will compete on “The Bachelorette”

The sports world and the world of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette have collided on multiple occasions over the years. Racecar driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. was a Bachelorette contestant and then became The Bachelor. Former NFL and college quarterback Jesse Palmer was famously The Bachelor. Meanwhile, Jordan Rodgers, brother of Aaron, was a contestant and winner on season 12 of The Bachelorette.

This upcoming season of The Bachelorette will also feature a contestant from the football world. Specifically, someone from the Texas Tech Red Raiders coaching staff.

News had actually broken last month that Texas Tech senior offensive analyst Kirk Bryant was a candidate to possibly appear on the show.

It now appears to be official that Bryant has made the cut and will be on the ABC show this season.

As far as how his boss at Texas Tech, Joey McGuire, feels about it, not only is he supportive of the move but he’s rooting for his assistant to get the girl.

“We are going to get shirts, we’re going to have an office watch party, we might have an office bracket,” McGuire said. “Kirk is the brand. I told him if he doesn’t get a rose that he might not need to come back to West Texas.”

Meanwhile, Sporting Kansas City’s forward Khiry Shelton is also expected to be a contestant this season as well.

“Sources close to the program indicate Shelton has a high probability of success in the coming season. Aside from being devilishly good-looking, Shelton is a humanitarian at heart as a prominent figure with the Victory Project, Sporting KC’s charitable foundation,” reads the Sporting KC website.

Oddly, both men have the ability to “win” this season as The Bachelorette will feature two bachelorettes, Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia. Both were finalists on last season’s The Bachelor.
