ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has been stepping deeper and deeper into politics lately and has been vocal about his willingness to put his name on the ballot for the upcoming 2028 presidential election.
However, Smith is now officially taking himself out of consideration for the post, due to his unwillingness to do anything that would negatively impact his earning ability.
Smith made an appearance on the debut episode of the Fox News podcast Hang Out with Sean Hannity, where Hannity asked him how serious he was about running to become the most powerful person in the world.
“2028’s coming pretty quick,” Hannity said. “I think it’s all bullsh*t, I don’t think you’re running, am I right?”
“I don’t think I’m running either, because I gotta give up my money,” Smith confirmed. “I ain’t giving up my money, Sean. Sean, I ain’t giving up my money. I can tell you right now, let me put the presidential aspirations to bed. If I have to give up my money, it’s not happening.”
Smith also revealed that he’d back Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a Republican, as a Presidential candidate over many prominent Democrats such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“He’s an adult in the room. There is no questioning his qualifications for the job,” Smith said.
Smith also voiced approval for Maryland Gov. Wes Moore or Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as potential candidates. Smith is a Democrat, so it’d be interesting to see if he’s vote for Rubio over Shapiro or Moore if it came to it in an election.
