While the release of Brittney Griner from Russian custody was cause for celebration to many, not everyone was happy about the decision to trade Griner for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, and to leave former Marine Paul Whelan in Russian custody. Former United States President Donald Trump blasted the decision, as did Micah Parsons and the wife of another NFL player all criticizing United States President Joe Biden. And now one United States representative is calling for Biden to be impeached for the decision.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who represents Georgia’s 14th District in the United States House of Representatives, is calling for Joe Biden to be impeached for his decision to trade Brittney Griner for Viktor Bout and leave Paul Whelan still imprisoned in Russia.
“Another reason to impeach Biden,” Marjorie Taylor Greene. “The President of the United States traded Russian terrorist arms dealer, Viktor Bout, left a U.S. Marine in Russian jail, and brought home a professional basketball player. How many people will Viktor Bout now kill bc Biden set him free?”
Biden defended the decision to bring Griner back and leave Whelan imprisoned, saying that Russia was unwilling to trade Bout for Whelan. Whelan’s family said they understood the decision to bring Griner home without Whelan, but Whelan admitted that he was “extremely disappointed” by the news.
