Former Georgia Bulldogs star running back Herschel Walker is just a few days away from election day as he runs for a Georgia Senate seat against incumbent Raphael Warnock. And after some tragic news in the college football world, it looks like he’ll have to finish his election campaign without one of his biggest supporters and mentors.
On Friday, legendary Georgia Bulldogs head coach Vince Dooley passed away at the age of 90. Dooley was the head coach of the Bulldogs between 1964 and 1988 where he guided Georgia to the 1980 national championship – a team that included Herschel Walker.
With news of Dooley’s passing, Walker took to Twitter to share a heartbreaking message honoring his former coach and mentor.
“Thank you Coach Dooley, for being one of the greatest men I have ever known. You mean more to me than you’ll ever know. I am the man I am because of you. Thank you for everything,” Walker said in a Tweet.
Just days before his passing, Dooley was supporting Walker and his Senate campaign by appearing in a campaign ad for his former running back.
As Walker continues his pursuit of the Georgia Senate seat, he finds himself in a very narrow race that will come down to the wire.
