On Tuesday, news broke that former president Donald Trump, who recently announced his campaign for president in 2024, won’t hold a rally for Senate candidate Herschel Walker ahead of Georgia’s special runoff election next month.
After hearing the news, one aid to the Herschel Walker campaign reacted by saying “thank God,” implying that the campaign did not want Trump’s help in the closing days. But when asked about Trump’s move during an interview with Fox News, Walker deflected and offered a vague reason why the former president wasn’t directly supporting the campaign.
“You know, President Trump has always been in my corner, he still is in my corner and he’s been doing other things for me and everyone has been doing a lot of things for me,” Walker said on Fox News, according to MediaIte. “Tonight we just got out of a fundraiser with Governor Kemp that a lot of people that was at the fundraiser and President Trump is doing just as much for me.”
Walker, a former Georgia Bulldogs star running back, hasn’t been too thrilled with Trump running for president at the same time as his important Senate race, and his team previously requested that the former president campaign elsewhere in the days leading up to the crucial election.
