Republican candidate Herschel Walker trails Democratic incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock by three points in the first Georgia Senate poll released following revelations Walker financed a woman’s abortion in 2009.
The Daily Beast reported earlier this week that Walker paid his then-girlfriend for an abortion after she became pregnant. Walker, for his part, has called the allegations a “flat-out lie” and has said he will sue the Daily Beast.
Walker’s son, Christian, a conservative influencer in his own right, also made headlines when he ripped his father for lying to their family and threatening them with death.
The poll, conducted by InsiderAdvantage/Fox 5 in Atlanta, shows Warnock leading Walker, 47 percent to 44 percent. Libertarian Chase Oliver received three percent of the vote, other candidates earned one percent, and five percent declared themselves undecided.
The poll surveyed 550 likely voters in Georgia with a margin of error of 4.2 percent.
The Senate race has become nationalized and could prove pivotal in deciding which political party controls the legislative chamber following the election.
Thirty-four days remain until the 2022 midterm elections, which occur on November 8th.
If no candidate cracks 50% of the total vote, a run-off election between the top two candidates will take place at a later date.
