The candidacy of Herschel Walker, the Georgia Bulldogs star turned Georgia Senate candidate, failed in spectacular fashion against Democratic incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock.
Walker conceded the race as he trailed by more than 100,000 votes on election night. As it turns out, many powerful interests tried to dissuade Walker from entering the race in the first place.
According to Business Insider, GOP consultants hired a law firm to compile a report on anything possibly damaging to Walker as he weighed entering the race. The law firm found 500 pages in two weeks.
“We found 500 pages in two weeks on you and God only knows what else is out there,” a GOP consultant told Walker, according to Business Insider.
Walker chose to enter the race, and we know what happened next. Two women accused the pro-life Walker of financing their abortions. He was also engulfed in a scandal involving a $1,500 tax credit he claimed on his $3 million house outside Dallas, Texas, that was only intended for primary residences. Just to name a few of the bad headlines Walker’s actions created throughout the campaign.
Walker has yet to announce his political future, though Florida Senator Rick Scott, a leading legislative Republican, has said Walker will be a “leader of the party for years to come.”
