Herschel Walker, the Republican Senate candidate in Georgia, faces Democratic incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock in the most bruising election of the 2022 midterm cycle.
Walker is getting a major boost in his campaign’s final days from popular Republican governor Brian Kemp, who just won sweeping re-election in the Nov. 8th election. Kemp had distanced himself from Walker during his own campaign — choosing to vaguely reference “the entire ticket” — but has since thrown his arm around Walker after securing re-election last month.
As the New York Times revealed Sunday, Kemp has activated his robust get-out-the-vote machine to aid Walker’s final push. While former president Donald Trump has chosen to avoid personally campaigning with Walker during the final stretch, Kemp has made several in-person appearances alongside Walker.
“He will go and fight for those values that we believe in here in our state,” the governor said, according to the New York Times.
The latest polling revealed a statistical dead heat between the candidates in the special runoff election while betting markets largely favor Senator Warnock to retain the seat.
Georgia voters head to the polls on Dec. 6th to finally decide the election. Democrats already retained control of the Senate in 2023.
