The political world has been gobsmacked in recent weeks over the ever-increasing list of lies that have been revealed related to U.S. Representative George Santos from New York. Now, the sports world is getting its shot to be amazed by the audacity of a particular lie around volleyball.

Santos is accused of lying in so many ways about his work background, education, religion, and financial backing during his election campaign.

When it comes to where he went to college, Santos claimed that he graduated from Baruch College with a degree in economics and finance. However, the school told the NY Times that it has no record of him being in the class of 2010, as he claimed.

Now comes word that Santos also told people that he played for Baruch’s successful volleyball program and led them to a championship.

“Santos claimed in his vetting interview that he was a star on the [Baruch College] volleyball team and lead the team to a league championship,” wrote MSNBC columnist Marisa Kabas on Wednesday.

It makes sense that he would want to associate himself with the Baruch men’s volleyball team as, per Jason Kirk, they’re an absolute powerhouse.

“Folks did you know the Baruch Bearcats have won 11 men’s volleyball DIII CUNYAC championships, because now I do,” said The Athletic’s Kirk.

Naturally, most people are finding it pretty hard to believe that it’s true given how much Santos has lied about. And the reactions around the sports world reflect that.

“Can’t believe he has yet to speak up about the night he dropped 50 on the Knicks at MSG,” said Fangraphs’ Jay Jaffe.

“At this point, I kind of admire this weirdo. A normal con artist lies about the essentials,” wrote Bleacher Report’s Adam Herman.

“This dude coulda raised so much money in Silicon Valley,” said NY Magazine and SI writer Joseph Bien-Kahn.

For what it’s worth, New York Republicans are starting to call for Santos to resign over his copious lies, but we’ll see if it actually happens.
