Both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis have been clear in their stance against transgender women and girls competing in women’s sports, but a recent failed anti-trans policy has DeSantis pointing fingers at Trump.
Last week, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) made a somewhat surprising decision to veto a bill that would have prohibited transgender women and girls from competing in sports in accordance with their gender identity.
DeWine’s decision was certainly a blow to the Republican agenda, especially considering DeWine is a Republican himself. As a result, DeSantis was quick to speak out against the move on social media, while also reminding everybody that Donald Trump is actually partially to blame for DeWine being in power in the first place as he endorsed him back in 2022.
“The Ohio legislature should override the veto done by Trump-endorsed Gov. DeWine. I’ve signed both of these bills — and I was right to do so. Girls should be able to compete with fairness and integrity in sports. And these procedures are irreversible and should not be allowed, period,” DeSantis said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
It was a pretty clear attempt to call out Trump, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

For what it’s worth, Trump made it clear that he was not happy with the move from DeWine either, saying that DeWine had “fallen to the Radical Left.” But that wasn’t stopping DeSantis from criticizing Trump for supporting DeWine in the first place.
