The legal drama that’s disgraced Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre entered its next phase this week. A Mississippi court will begin the discovery phase in the state’s lawsuit against the former NFL legend over misappropriated funds from the state’s welfare program.
Front Office Sports reported that the court subpoenaed former University of Southern Mississippi president Rodney Brown, who’s been implicated in the case as well. FOS said the subpoena dealt with gathering communications between Brown and Favre.
A.J. Perez wrote, “In the subpoena obtained by Front Office Sports, the Mississippi Department of Human Services — which sued Favre, the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation, and others in the agency’s effort to recover millions of misspent welfare funds — requested Bennett to turn over electronic communications related to Favre’s efforts to build a volleyball center at the school.
The state of Mississippi hopes to build a case against Favre to prove that he frauded the state for millions of dollars. The former quarterback has vehemently denied all accusations throughout the process, but his legal maneuvers have been mostly futile. Mississippi’s Supreme Court court recently denied his attempt to get the case dismissed.
So, it sure sounds like the heat is about to be ramped up on Brett. The world reacted to the latest update in the Favre saga.
