Brett Favre’s deposition in a welfare case fraud against him has been pushed back to December, according to his attorneys, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday.
Favre has been accused of taking funds meant for welfare recipients, which he has denied. The former Hall of Fame quarterback has also sued the state auditor who investigated the misspending for defamation and said he paid back misspent welfare funds.
According to AP, a notice of deposition filed in Hinds County Circuit Court by attorneys for Mississippi’s Department of Human Services said Favre was scheduled to give sworn testimony on Oct. 26 at a hotel in Hattiesburg. A subsequent court document filed Friday shows the hearing has been rescheduled for December 11 based on a request by Favre’s lawyers.
Favre, who has been very outspoken about all of this since the accusations occurred, was also accused of trying to use some of the money to help build a new volleyball gym for his alma mater, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, something he also denies.
It had taken a while before the case had gotten to this point. While others who were involved in this situation had been arrested, Favre remained free, which upset a lot of people who wondered when or if the citizens of Mississippi would see justice done.
It appears they’ll have to wait at least a few more months before that happens.
