Florida fisherman survives horrifying Bull Shark attack

A tragedy almost occurred off Florida’s coast when a Bull Shark almost killed a 20-year-old spearfisherman in a terrifying attack.

According to reports from Newsweek and Fox 7 Austin, the bull shark, which was as much as 10 feet long and weighed 500 pounds, “came out of nowhere” and chomped down on Kevin Blanco’s leg twice while diving about 70 feet underwater. Blanco was lucky to survive the attack.

“I’ve been in that situation a lot of times, and they are usually afraid of us,” Blanco said. “That one was not afraid of us. He wanted me. It was a scary event.”

The attack happened last Thursday off the coast of Marathon, FL. He was brought ashore by a private boat, and then airlifted to the hospital.

“I’ve been in the water a very long time. I’ve never seen a shark act like this,” Blanco continued.

Just a day and a half after the incident with Blanco, another shark attack occurred off Summerland Key, FL. This time a 36-year-old man was bitten on the foot. His condition is unknown.

According to a story done last year by Newsweek, the increase in shark attacks is because of the crowded beaches, especially in states like Florida, where vacationers flock to.

As for Blanco, he will be released from the hospital soon after the bull shark attack. Thankfully he was able to avoid a catastrophic event that no doubt would make anyone fearful to re-enter the water.
