U.S. gymnastics great Gabby Douglas is eying a return to the mat.
The three-time Olympic Gold Medalist announced on her Instagram that she plans to return to Team USA for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
“There’s so much to be said, but for now…. let’s do this,” Douglas wrote to cap off a lengthy post. She hashtagged “2024,” signifying her plans to participate next year on the road to the Olympics in Paris.
Douglas is one of the most accomplished gymnasts of her era. At the 2012 Olympics in London, the Virginia native won two gold medals in the all-around and team events. In the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro, Douglas once again took home the gold in the team events. She is a two-time gold medalist in the World Championships, earning the gold in 2011’s games in Tokyo and 2015’s in Glasgow.
This is obviously huge news for gymnastics and for the Olympics. Gabby Douglas was a big name in the sport in the 2010s, and her resume speaks for itself. An accomplished gymnast re-joining the fray and getting back in the mix is absolutely a positive development. The U.S. gymnasts tend to bring in a very favorable and enthusiastic audience. So come Paris, all eyes will be on Douglas again.
