The second-round NHL North Division series between the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets didn’t produce much drama (apart from Department of Player Safety hearings/suspensions), with the Canadiens finishing off a 4-0 sweep with a 3-2 overtime win Monday night. But that’s led to quite a remarkable stat. As the @SNStats account pointed out, the Canadiens now haven’t trailed in 437:53 of game time (more than seven games in regulation), a stat only bested by their own team in 1960:
That’s impressive indeed. And it’s interesting how the Canadiens’ close first-round series (they came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Toronto Maple Leafs) led into a not-as-close second-round series. We’ll see if they can keep this remarkable run of not trailing up in the conference finals against the winner of the Colorado Avalanche-Vegas Golden Knights series, which is currently tied 2-2.
